REPENT AMERICA TO COUNTER UNRIGHTEOUSNESS
AT LEADING SPRING BREAK DESTINATION
03/04/09

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - Repent America (RA) will return to Panama City Beach, Florida this month to proclaim the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ during this year's Spring Break season. Throughout the two most heavily populated weeks of attendance, March 9th and 16th, RA will engage in open-air preaching, one-on-one witnessing and tract distribution to the tens of thousands of college students who will be gathered on the beach to indulge in sin.

"There is a great need for the preaching of God's Word during Spring Break," states Repent America director Michael Marcavage. "Last year, we ministered to hundreds of college students and witnessed firsthand the reckless rebellion of our nation's youth. The sight on the beach is heartbreaking, which compels us to preach the Word to as many as will listen," he adds.

Panama City Beach, as the nation's leading Spring Break destination, attracts over 300,000 students each year due to its "party" atmosphere of sexual promiscuity and drunkenness. According to the Journal of American College Health, the average male student consumes 18 drinks per day during Spring Break, while the average female consumes 10 per day. Additionally, a survey by the American Medical Association finds that over 80 percent of students admit that the consumption of alcohol during Spring Break contributes to reckless behavior, and more than half of females state that being promiscuous is "a way to fit in."

Undoubtedly, the environment created during Spring Break is heavily prompted by the presence of the MTV network, known for its indoctrination of youth culture with images of indecency, immorality and violence. Every year for the past decade, MTV has targeted students on the beach with various forms of "entertainment," such as lewd contests and appearances by reality show celebrities. Bob Pittman, the founder of the network, clearly stated MTV's agenda for America's youth when he said: "If you can get their emotions going and make them forget their logic, you've got them. At MTV, we don't shoot for the [youth], we own them."

However, Marcavage says that contrary to what MTV will be promoting on the beach this year, Repent America will speak the truth about the wages of sin and preach repentance and belief in the Gospel.

"Scripture warns that fornicators and drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God, and this warning is especially fitting during Spring Break as college students rush to unrighteousness," he explains. "As God's Word is preached during this two week period, our prayer is that many students will come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved. The enemy is hard at work using tools like MTV to influence the youth of our nation to go deeper into sin and darkness; this is why we counter the spiritual attack through raising up the standard of righteousness by the preaching of God's Word," he concludes.

"And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved." (John 3:19-20)
